Late 19th Century Plaster Écorché

Écorché is the traditional method of studying anatomy by drawing or sculpting the figure without skin, to reveal the details of muscle and bone structure. Throughout history the study of anatomy has played a major role in the education of artists, through a deeper understanding of body movements and forms.

This life size head will have derived from a larger piece, with the base being a later addition to enable it to stand independently.

In great condition, and with superb natural colour. A truly fine additional to any collection.
